for ali
by Troy Eggleston

fired out like bombshells
dancing child in raindrop shoes
african poet with eyes of ghosts
your smile was enough for all i knew
glowing magnificent hooks and whirls spin
the sleeping elephant, awake again.
and i dare not say i'm such a man
a beautiful giant, with thunderous hands
you bewitched the world with bold silver charm
captured love in lightness of harm
in reverence i rejoice
such a soul not broken.
